I’ve been hearing good things about butter/bulletproof coffee, and after reading up on it a bit here I decided to give it a try! Because I’m doing a whole30 this month I used pastured ghee instead of butter, but it still turned out really fantastic. The richness of the butter gives the coffee smoothness without the dilution that you get with cream or milk. I also have yet to try adding some coconut oil to the mix, but that’ll probably come soon and I’m looking forward to giving it a try.
The idea of bulletproof coffee is to get a solid dose of healthy fats and fat-soluble vitamins in the morning. High quality coffee is important, as is using good pastured butter/ghee (I used this). Depending on how much butter/oil you add, this can pretty much be your full breakfast and it really tastes excellent, a whole lot better than you would expect from adding butter to your coffee! Definitely don’t skip the blending step or else you’ll lose out on the creamy, frothy, latte-like head that really makes it great!
-At least 2 T. pastured butter
-Coconut oil (optional)
-Hot brewed coffee
Melt butter and coconut oil in your mug, then fill cup with hot brewed coffee. Pour the mixture into a blender and blend thoroughly for about a minute until a froth forms on top of the liquid and the oil and coffee are thoroughly mixed. Pour back into the mug and enjoy!
